Astronomy Questions Free Essays

Stargazing 1760-60 Fall 2010 Homework 2 Answers Short Answer/General Questions: These ought to have short answers of a couple of sentences. 1. Clarify the contrast among speed and speed and why this is significant in increasing speed. We will compose a custom exposition test on Cosmology Questions or then again any comparative theme just for you Request Now Give a model where an item is quickening, yet their speed is consistent. Speed: Change in position after some time †separation after some time Velocity: Change in position and bearing over the long run †separation and heading after some time Acceleration: Change in Velocity, so an adjustment in speed, course or both.Example: An adjustment in heading however not speed would be quickening around a bend, where speed is steady yet the heading changes, which implies the speed changes, which implies that increasing speed happens. 2. Why is light so significant in cosmology? We spent an enormous piece of our talk discussing light and the sorts of light †for what reason does this make a difference such a great amount in cosmology? What is the fundamental way space experts get data about things outside our cosmic system? Light is significant in cosmology on the grounds that, outside the close planetary system, it is the ONLY thing that contacts us from some other spot in the un iverse. All the data we have is from light. Light (saw by telescopes and satellites) is the primary way that space experts gain data about the universe outside our nearby planetary group. Light educates us regarding the source object, the way it has taken, the things it has passed and anything it has experienced. In some cases it’s difficult to distinguish a portion of these things, yet they are all in the light data we get. 3. In class we discussed the three principle sorts of vitality †dynamic, potential and radiation. For each kind of vitality, give a model and clarify why this sort of vitality fits in that classification. Active (vitality of movement) †running, tossing a ball, smacking a fly, thus numerous things Potential (spared vitality) †vitality put away in a battery, vitality put away in your body (from food) Radiative vitality (light vitality) †light vitality from the sun (feels warm when you are outside, isn't that so? ) 4. What is the contrast between rakish goals and amplification? Give a model from regular daily existence about precise goals versus amplification. Space science 1760-60 Fall 2010 Homework 2 Answers Angular goals vs.Magnification †Magnification implies that you are amplifying a picture that you as of now have, however you are not adding any more detail to it. You can build the size, however you aren’t going to perceive any more. Rakish goals is the littlest edge between two focuses that permits them to in any case be discernable, and on the off chance that you increment that, you add more detail to a picture. Keep in mind, that when you explode things on the PC (amplify) the PC screen is restricting your rakish goals, so pictures may appear to be progressively point by point yet that’s in light of the fact that the screen couldn’t show you the detail that was in the image.Once the precise goals of the screen coordinates the picture, you can grow it (amplify) it all you need, you won’t see more detail. However, getting a higher goals form of a similar picture and amplifying it by a similar sum will permit you to see more detail since that image has more data. Which is likewise why those records occupy a great deal more space on your PC. Consider it/Experiment Questions: These inquiries require somewhat more work and marginally additional time, however none of them should take excessively long. 1. You discover a planet circling a star that is generally a similar mass as our sun. This planet circles in 63 days. Utilizing either Kepler’s third Law or its Newtonian adaptation (it’s up to you, simply make a point to show which you utilized) figure the planet’s orbital separation and contrast with the Earth’s orbital separation. Keep in mind, these two different ways will have replies in various units, so ensure you comprehend what units you are working in to contrast with the Earth. Make a point to show your work for the estimations which ever way you use. The following are a couple of accommodating snippets of data: Kepler’s third Law: pg. 68 in your book, and there is a model as well.Newtonian Version: pg. 100 on the left side Earth’s good ways from the Sun: 1 AU or 1. 5 x 10 11 m Keplers Law P^2 = A^3 P = 63/365 = 0. 17 P^2 = 0. 029 A = (0. 029)^1/3 A = 0. 31 AU This separation, contrasted with the Earth-Sun separation is 1 AU, which implies that this planet is 1/3 of the good ways from its sun as we are from our own. 2. In class we discussed dark body spectra. People radiate as a blackbody, not simply stars. Expecting that we have a temperature of 310 K (about internal heat level), utilize the equation on Astronomy 1760-60 Fall 2010 Homework 2 Answers age 123 of your book to discover the frequency where we discharge a large portion of our radiation. Contrast this with our sun, which has a pinnacle frequency of 500 nm (obvious light). What sort of light do we top in? Demonstrate your figurings to get full credit on this issue! Lambda = 2,900,000/T = 2,900,000/310 = 9355 nm This is around 10,000 nm = 1ãâ€"10^4 nm = 1x 10^-5 m = INFRARED We top in the infrared, as do most Earth warm blooded animals. This is the reason night vision goggles see individuals around evening time †they are demonstrating infrared. Be that as it may, in spite of what motion pictures will have you accept, they for the most part don’t function admirably through walls. You don’t have great rakish goals through dividers. What's more, a few windows presently are all around ok protected that you wonâ⠂¬â„¢t see a lot of infrared light through them either. 3. The environment of the Earth reflects once again into space a bit of the Sun’s light, so it never arrives at the ground. In any case, the climate additionally helps keep a portion of the vitality closer to the Earth once it reaches the ground. In the event that we didn’t have the air, would the Earth’s surface be hotter or colder? For what reason do you think this? I’m not asking that you look into the appropriate response †I need you to consider it and give me your thinking and legitimize it.You can use to reading material to help, yet make a point to reference whatever you use from it in your answer. The temperature of the Earth without an environment would be around 255 K, which is ~ 0 degrees F. This implies the Earth may have fluid water at certain occasions (during summer) however not the majority of the year and not continually. This would likewise be the normal temperature (implying that the temperature would be fluctuating around this the same number of you thought) however since now the normal temperature is 288 K (58 F) it implies the normal would be right around 60 degrees colder. Many of you noticed that there would be unmistakably increasingly light and vitality arriving at the Earth, which is valid. Yet, quite a bit of it wouldn’t collaborate with the Earth that much and wouldn’t change the temperature on a superficial level. This is adjusted by the nursery impact that occurs with an environment, which warms the surface despite the fact that it likewise obstructs some light from arriving at the surface. This parity would bring about a marginally colder Earth, however like some of you speculated, it would in any case be decent for us today (however likely not for developing living things). 4. Do an examination at home. Hang up a bit of paper at eye level with certain lines on it 2 mm separated (you can make your own, or there is one posted on D2L). Stroll back until you can simply consider them to be unmistakable lines and could tell precisely what number of there are on the page. This gives you a proportion of your precise goals. How far back did you get from the lines? Normal visual perception says you should see them simply settling around 4-5 m. Is it accurate to say that you were nearer or more remote? Shows improvement over normal vision (better precise goals), or more awful? Cosmology 1760-60 Fall 2010 Homework 2 AnswersUse the separation that you were away from the divider to discover the precise goals of your eye utilizing the recipe underneath and the separation in meters. You can change over feet to meters by partitioning the quantity of feet by 3. 28 to get the quantity of meters. Rakish goals (circular segment minutes) = 6. 8755/Distance (m) Most individuals will get something along the lines of 1. 5 to 1. 0 precise goals. Presently you can perceive any reason why Tycho Brahe’s perceptions were so amazing. In the event that you wear contacts or glasses, make a point to have them in when you do this investigation. In any case you’re answer will be a lot bigger than 1. .I stood 15. 83 ft away, 15. 83/3. 28 which is 4. 75 m. Rakish goals of my eyes (with glasses) is 6. 875/4. 75 = 1. 45, which is really normal. Regardless of whether you have precise goals around 1. 8 to 2, that is still entirely acceptable vision. Individuals who needed to stand 3 ft away (precise goals around 7) may need to show signs of improvement glasses however. The class normal precise goals = 2. 43 Remember, a more modest number implies that the point between two things can be littler when you recognize them, which means they can be nearer. So littler = better. On account of precise goals. Step by step instructions to refer to Astronomy Questions, Papers

Microsoft Corporation Example For Free - Free Essay Example

Microsoft Corporation is a multinational computer technology corporation that develops, manufactures, licenses, and supports a wide range of software products, including operating systems and applications for servers, personal computers, consumer applications and intelligent devices; server applications for distributed computing environments; information worker productivity applications; business solutions applications; high-performance computing applications; software development tools; Internet software and technologies and video games. Headquartered in Redmond, Washington, USA, its most profitable products are the Microsoft Windows operating system and the Microsoft Office suite of productivity software. The company also provides consulting, product and solution support services, and training and certifications for computer system integrators and developers. Microsoft also designs and commercializes hardware including the Xbox 360 video game console, the Zune digital music and entertainment device, and peripherals. Other online offerings are: Bing, Windows Live, Office Live, MSN, Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online, Exchange Hosted Services, Exchange Online, SharePoint Online and adCenter platform. Present in more than 100 countries, Microsoft Corporation employed as of June 30, 2009, approximately 93,000 people on a full-time basis, 56,000 in the United States and 37,000 internationally. Microsoft Corporation business is divided into five operating segments: Client, Server and Tools, Online Services Business, Microsoft Business Division, and Entertainment and Devices Division. In this study, the Microsoft Corporation annual reports ended respectively June 30, 2008 and June 30, 2009 are used to compute financial ratios in order to assess the financial position and performance of the company. Those reports, the consolidated financial statements and accompanying notes they contain were prepared in accordance with accounting princi ples generally accepted in the United States of America and are expressed in US Dollar ($). The audit of independent registered public accounting firm was conducted in accordance with the standards of the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (United States), and an unqualified opinion on the Companys internal control over financial reporting was expressed for both reports. The following figures contain the selected data from the annual reports 2008 2009 that were used for ratios calculation, and the different ratios that have been computed together with some industry averages taken from Reuters and Infinancials websites and the ratios formulae used. A study of the profitability, liquidity, efficiency, investment and capital structure ratios is then presented. Finally, using a recent share price of Apple inc., the price earnings ratios of the two companies are computed and compared. Profitability A 3.39% decrease in sales and a 4.58% increase in cost of revenu es led to a small decrease of the gross margin of Microsoft corp. from 2008 to 2009. As stated in 2009 10K report, the revenues of Microsoft decreased in this period across all segments due to the global PC market decline and the bad economic environment. During this period, the revenues from Windows operating systems and from the Entertainment and Devices Division all decreased. Although server and server application revenue increased, the overall profitability of the company declined a little. A reported decrease of general and administrative and sales and marketing expenses, mixed with an increase in headcount-related expenses, cost of revenue, and employee severance charges led to a stable operating expenses. But the decrease in revenues led to a lower operating margin in 2009 in comparison with 2008. The gap is bigger when comparing the return on sales between 2009 2008. This is explained by the 21.36% decrease in Microsoft net income. Indeed, the company reported a $125 million loss in net investment (compared to $346 million gain in 2008), a $558 million loss on derivatives (compared to $226 million gain in 2008) and a $509 million loss on foreign currency re-measurements compared to $226 million gain in 2008. Microsoft began in July 2008 presenting gains and losses resulting from foreign currency re-measurements as a component of other income (expense) rather than as a component of sales and marketing expense. The return on assets ratio further decreases due to higher assets in 2009 and the increase in liabilities sets the difference between the return on capital employed ratios to around 10 points lower in 2009 than in 2008. An overall decrease in the profitability ratios of Microsoft corp. is noticed in 2009 compared to 2008 due to several conditions, the most important being the PC market decline, the global economic environment and an increase in expenses like headcount-related expenses. Microsoft expects however for the up coming years, a revival of the economic market, higher income with the new operating system (Windows7) release and a decrease in overall expenses thanks to the implemented resource management program in January 2009 to reduce discretionary operating expenses, employee headcount, and capital expenditures. Microsoft announced, as part of this program, the downsizing of its human resources by the elimination of up to 5,000 positions by June 30, 2010. And when comparing the profitability ratios with the industry averages, Microsoft seems to remain and to continue to be a very profitable company. Liquidity Efficiency The current ratio and the acid test ratio are higher in 2009 than in 2008. This is explained by the fact that Microsoft is having higher assets and lower liabilities. Furthermore, Microsoft seems to better handle the payable and receivable accounts. Indeed, the credit control ratio (DSO) and the credit taken ratio (DPO) both decreased, and DSO is maintained to b e much lower than the DPO. Inventory turnover or DIO is equal to 25.20 days in 2009 in comparison to 32.78 days in 2008, which means a faster moving stock and a less tied up capital. Those better liquidity results are mainly due to the Client operating segment of Microsoft corp., where the changes in the mix of original equipment manufacturer (OEM) Windows premium edition operating systems, and the lower cost of netbook PCs, which are sold with a lower cost version of Windows, helped in increasing the rate of inventories turnover. And in comparing with industry averages, we can notice that Microsoft holds good liquidity conditions. Capital structure In September and November 2008, Microsoft corp. board of directors authorized short-term and long-term debt financings. This represented in 2009 a $2.0 billion short-term and a $3.75 billion long-term debts that are intended to be used for general corporate purposes, including funding for working capital, capital expenditu res, repurchases of capital stock, and acquisitions. This led to a leverage ratio of 14.53% in 2009 versus 0% in 2008. The decrease in equity in 2009 however compensated these new debts, and the total debt to equity ratio decreased from 100.61% in 2008 to 96.90% in 2009. Although the total debt to equity is slightly higher than industry average, the leverage ratio is greatly lower then the industry average and the company pays no interest. Investment With a lower income and a higher equity, the return on equity ratio falls from 52.48% in 2008 to 38.42% in 2009. This is explained by the significant increase in the assets due to short term investments. Cash, cash equivalents, and short-term investments represent $31.4 billion at June 30, 2009, compared with $23.7 billion as of June 30, 2008. Microsoft reports the investments to consist primarily of fixed-income securities, diversified among industries and individual issuers. However, the return on equity ratio of Microsoft remains well higher than the industry average. A higher dividend per share and a lower share price (taken at June 30, 2008 and June 30, 2009) led to a higher dividend yield ratio. To compensate the decrease in net income that led to a decline in the earnings per share, Microsoft corp. board of directors approved two shares repurchase programs during the first quarter of fiscal year 2007 to buy back up to $40.0 billion of Microsoft common stock. Microsoft repurchased 318 million shares during the twelve months ended June 30, 2009. Finally the earnings per share moved from 1.9 in 2008 to 1.63 in 2009. Taking the share price at June 30, 2008 2009, the price earning ratio of Microsoft increases from 13.71 to 14.59. Even if it remains lower than the industry average, it means that the market confidence in the future of Microsoft corp. business is higher in 2009 than in 2008. The price earning ratios, when computed using share price as by January 17, 2010, are 16.28 for 2008 and 18.95 for 2009, which means that investors are more confident in Microsofts ability to generate profit than in 2009 and are expecting a better growth of Microsoft during 2010. The 2009 price earning ratio becomes higher than the industry average (17.4), which means that Microsoft is now considered as a worth-investing company. This is probably explained by the apparent world economic situation recovery, and the release of the new Windows7 operating system. Apple inc. A comparison can be made between Microsoft corp. and Apple inc. using their relative price/earning ratios. In order to do the comparison, the annual financial report of Apple inc. is used. The earning per share (EPS) for 2009 is reported to be 6.39. The share price as by January 17, 2010 for Apple inc. is $205.93 (taken from Reuters website). This leads to a price earning ratio of 32.23. The price/earning ratio of Microsoft corp. taking the share price at the same date is 18.95. It is clear that the price earning ratio of Apple inc. is well higher that the ratio of Microsoft corp., which means that investors predict Apple to have greater growth in the futures in comparison to Microsoft. Indeed, even though Apple generated $36.537 billion revenue and $5.704 billion net income in 2009 (taken from Apple inc. 2009 annual report), which is lower than the $58.437 billion revenue and $14.569 billion net income generated by Microsoft in 2009; net sales during 2009 increased $4.1 billion or 12% compared to 2008, whereas Microsoft corp. reported a 3.39% decrease in sales from 2008 to 2009. This growth in sales and net income of Apple inc. is explained by the fact that the iPhone revenue and net sales of related products and services increased of $4.9 billion or 266% compared to 2008. iPhone handset unit sales also grew by 78% during 2009 compared to 2008. The net sales of other music-related products and services also grew by $696 million or 21% during 2009 com pared to 2008. Those 2 major products of Apple inc. are expected to grow further during the coming year and are contributing to the recognized good financial health of Apple inc. It is however important to mention that, even though Apple inc. 2009 annual report has been prepared in accordance with accounting principles generally accepted in the United States of America and are expressed in US Dollar ($) like for Microsoft corp., the reported financial data correspond to a closing accounting date as by September 26, 2009, whereas Microsoft corp. closing accounting date is June 30, 2009. This difference might bias the earnings per share reported ratios and thus the price earning ratios. It is also important to notice that although the high share price of Apple inc. in comparison to its earnings and in comparison to Microsoft corp., a prospective investor has to take into account the fact that Apple inc. did not declare nor pay any cash dividends in either 2009 or 2008, and th at Apple anticipates that for the foreseeable future it will retain any earnings for use in the operation of its business; whereas Microsoft corp. paid $4.468 billion in 2009 and $4.015 billion in 2008 to its shareholders. Last, we can notice that Microsoft corp. and Apple inc. are supposed to be in the same industry as both are developing software and hardware products. However, Microsoft corp.s main revenues are generated by the software segment (Microsoft Windows operating system and Microsoft Office suite of productivity software), whereas the most profitable products of Apple inc. are hardware related (Desktops, portables, iPod and iPhone). Conclusion In this report, the financial data of Microsoft Corporation for fiscal years 2008 2009 have been studied. Relevant financial ratios have been computed in order to compare the companys health over the two years. The profitability of the company fell a little from 2008 to 2009. However, it remains highly profitable in c omparison to industry peers. Microsoft corp. presents a better liquidity and is more efficient in 2009 than in 2008, and remains over the industry averages. Debts issued in late 2008 deteriorated the company leverage, but an increase in companys equity limited its effects. The investment ratios grew from 2008 to 2009 and are higher than industry averages. The comparison with a competitor, namely Apple inc. seems to prove that the latter is expected to have a higher growth in the future; however, Microsoft Corporation seems to still represent a good investment opportunity.

Sociological Imagination Concept as it Relates to Domestic...

Life is filled with many difficulties which affect us all in one way or another. However, we do not all face the same difficulties. If we are to survive we need to first understand what these difficulties or problems are, in order to learn how to deal with them. One such problem is, is domestic violence. It is necessary to determine whether the problem is personal one or due to society (social problems), so that the individuals involved can learn how to deal with their situation. The general definition of a personal problem, is one in which its causes and solutions lie within the individual. That is, they are caused by an individuals own feeling about a given situation. For example, someone commits a murder because they are sad or†¦show more content†¦In other words, this theory is based on how the external factors of society affect individuals and their behavior. One area in which this concept can be seen is with domestic violence. Domestic violence and Emotional abuse can be defined as behaviors used by one person in a relationship to control another. This is both a national and world wide problem. According to a 2000 UNICEF study, up to half the female population of the world becomes the victims of domestic violence. It claims four lives every day in the United States alone. Anyone can be a victim, any age, sex, race, culture, religion, education, employment, marital status or sexual orientation. Women however, are more likely to become victims than men. As for the perpetrator of abuse, they have no typical manifestation. In public the abuser may appear loving and friendly towards their partner and or family. They commonly have low self-esteem, and dont like to take responsibility for their actions. So they may try to hide the abuse by inflicting injuries that will not require medical attention. Abuse may be physical, emotional, sexual, and psychological. Abusive persons are usually people who like to be in control of other people. Here this form o f control is usually a behavior, which is learnt as a means to getting what they want. Children in homes where there is abuse usually end up either, being abused themselves or being neglected. This is where they generally learn to become abusers themselves.Show MoreRelatedMy Interest Of Study Society1154 Words   |  5 Pagespeople s behavior we must look outside those individuals and concentrate into the larger social environment in which they live, including personal history. Moral Issues of Paternalism and Truth-Telling free essay sample

The word calls to mind the image of a father who makes decisions for his children rather than letting them make their own decisions, on the grounds that father knows best. The principle of paternalism underlies a wide range of laws, practices, and actions? physician who decides what is best for a patient, a sign prohibiting swimming without a lifeguard on duty, laws against voluntary euthanasia, laws restricting the use of heroine, cocaine, marijuana and other drugs, compulsory retirement savings plans, and mandatory seat belt laws. All designed to protect our interests, whether we like it or not. Paternalism is widely regarded as being restrictive to the liberty and autonomy of individuals, and for this reason it is often opposed. While paternalistic practices are relatively common, are they morally acceptable? Paternalism involves a conflict of two important values: 1) the value we place on the freedom of persons to make their own choices about how they will lead their lives, and 2) the value we place on promoting and protecting the well being of others. We will write a custom essay sample on Moral Issues of Paternalism and Truth-Telling or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page When people freely choose to act in ways that seem contrary to their own well being, the question of whether we are justified in interfering with their affairs, the problem of paternalism arises. Although it is not in their nature, paternalistic systems must realize that their goals are best achieved by persuasion rather than force. Harding must realize that it needs to teach students how to reason as independent moral actors, rather than just as obedient rule-followers. The paternalistic rules, by their very existence, undermine the ability of the individual to develop a personal moral compass that can be used as a guide beyond the confines of this institution. I have once read,† . . . he only purpose for which power can be rightfully exercised over any member of a civilized community, against his will, is to prevent harm to others. His own good, either physical or moral, is not a sufficient warrant. He cannot rightfully be compelled to do or forbear because it will be better for him to do so, because it will make him happier, because in the opinion of others, to do so would be wise, or even right. The only part of the conduct of anyone, for which he is amenable to soc iety, is that which concerns others. In the part which merely concerns himself, his independence is of right, absolute, over himself. Over his own body-mind, the individual is sovereign. â€Å" For me, freedom is essential for the development of each persons individuality, the attainment of truth, and the development of new and more enriching lifestyles. It is, therefore, a most fundamental social value. Persons must be left free to make their own choices about how they will lead their lives, even if these choices are considered reckless, stupid, or otherwise bad choices by others. Moreover, the ability to make choices that promote our well-being is a capacity one acquires and improves only through practice. Also, for me, individuals are the best judges of their own interests and so should be left free to pursue them. Truth-Telling The question now is not whether to tell the truth, but how to tell it in a sensitive and supportive manner that does not create unnecessary despair and that, as far as possible, maintains hope But, on the other hand, Truth telling allows the person with the diagnosis to plan for optimal life experiences in remaining years of intact capacities, prepare a durable power of attorney for health care decisions—some may also prepare a living will—to be implemented upon eventual incompetence For me, the right thing to do is to place a great emphasis on informing the patient of the diagnosis, especially when cancer is the diagnosis. So to use the principle of informed consent takes precedence over other ethical values, and patients are usually at least asked whether they want to know the diagnosis.

Should I Write a Management Term Paper Or a Non-Management Term Paper?

Should I Write a Management Term Paper Or a Non-Management Term Paper? You may be wondering whether to prepare a management term paper or a non-management term paper. To put it simply, a management term paper is concerned with policies and procedures that are necessary for a business to thrive; whereas a non-management term paper is usually concerned with similar things, but without the need to be formally structured as a business policy.A management term paper can take on many forms, though most of them are related to managing, managing others, or management itself. Examples would include employee development training, employee surveys, or leadership development. It's important that you create a policy before you begin working on your term paper, but you shouldn't let your policy limit what you write on your term paper, as you might end up writing a management term paper instead of an employee development or leadership term paper. It is important to remember that when choosing a topic for your term paper, that it needs to be something that you are knowledgeable about, and that it can be researched using current corporate management terms and principles. For example, if you are working with the accounting department, make sure that you know exactly what accounting is and how it is used in the organization.Once you have decided on the topic that you're going to use, you need to start researching the best management ideas and terms, and then come up with your own custom one-off phrase that fits your particular business. If possible, use the word 'management' when referring to it, as this will make it sound a lot more professional. What you should do is start by finding out as much as you can about the current workplace culture and practices. Know everything there is to know about the business. You should be able to put together an incredible outline on how to approach each issue, and how they relate to the business.Once you have started your term paper, you should a lso have an outline written out on the major themes and problems that you are going to tackle. Knowing what the main points of your term paper are will help you when it comes time to write and revise. Once you have a well-written term paper, then you are ready to start taking down notes and researching the different concepts that will be discussed in your term paper. If you're having trouble coming up with a business idea, you can turn to non-management term papers, which don't need to be formal, but they do need to have an outline that you can use to research them. You can search the Internet for these types of papers, and there are also companies that specialize in the writing of these types of papers, so you'll have plenty of choices. Most importantly, if you choose to write a management term paper, you need to write it for the purpose of getting your point across. No matter what type of term paper you choose to write, you need to make sure that you have done your research, and tha t you're well-informed about the topic that you're writing about.
